This post presents a new Purim ritual created by Ma’yan, a Jewish feminist, social justice and leadership training program for teen girls. They created flags celebrating the courage of two female characters in the Purim story, Vashti and Esther, to be waved during the readings of Megillat Esther at the mention of the names of these two women, just as noise-makers (groggers) are sounded at each mention of the name of the villain, Haman.
