The one-line version of the Grace After Meals, presented below in Aramaic, English and transliterated, has been adopted for general use in many Conservative communities. Some Conservative prayer books include this Aramaic phrase along with additions in English. There are several different shortened versions of the lengthy Grace After Meals blessing that have been adopted by various communities, some for general use, others for extraordinary circumstances. The Ben Ish Chai (Rabbi Yosef Hayim, 1835-1909), a leading Sephardic rabbi and Kabbalist who lived in Baghdad, ruled that in extreme cases when someone is very short on time or does not know how to read Hebrew, this one line blessing in Aramaic, based on a verse in the Talmud (Brachot 40b), can be recited instead of the lengthy Grace After Meals.
